Green Infrastructure

Many urban areas are turning to green infrastructure to sustainably manage rainfall runoff and reduce flow to the stormwater system. Green Infrastructure refers to a variety of approaches to detain and clean, capture and reuse, or infiltrate stormwater runoff and can include solutions such as rain gardens, porous pavements, green roofs, and stormwater treatment tree wells. Mimicking the way that nature collects and cleanses water, green infrastructure is not only proving to be more cost-effective than traditional approaches, but is also highly beneficial in the way of managing flooding, preparing for drought, and reducing maintenance of existing stormwater drains.

Northgate supports municipal and private clients in developing guidance documents and standard design drawings; using mapping tools to identify optimal locations to install green infrastructure; and designing long-term green infrastructure solutions.
