Sediment Management and Beneficial Reuse
Widening of marine navigation channels, creation of new terminals, and dredging behind dams are resulting in increased volumes of contaminated sediments. Our sediment management experts help to turn this material into a wide variety of end uses — we consider this sediment a resource, rather than a waste. Many of these reuses, such as restored wetlands or stabilized cement for shoreline buttressing, help our clients become more resilient in the face of sea level rise and storm surge. The approach is especially important on coastal resiliency projects where costs of material transport may be high – locally derived sediment and solidified material can substantially reduce project implementation costs.
Northgate’s engineers, geologists, and cost-benefit analysts work with states, municipalities, ports, parks organizations and private developers to achieve project-tailored sediment management and reuse goals.
