Rush Ranch Tidal Restoration
Northgate assisted Sonoma Land Trust in restoring tidal and seasonal wetland habitat and improving hydrologic connections to downstream estuarine areas within two seasonal drainages on the Rush Ranch Open Space Preserve in Suisun Marsh. The project will provide habitat benefits for native marsh fish and wildlife, improve public access opportunities, provide unobstructed connections between fluvial and estuarine habitats, and allow natural habitat transgression with sea level rise. In the planning phase, Northgate performed the preliminary site evaluations, developed the conceptual project designs, and prepared the CEQA document. In the implementation phase, Northgate developed the final restoration design, performed a geotechnical investigation of the soil conditions at the location of a proposed culvert replacement bridge, which presented a significant design challenge, and developed alternative soil improvement strategies.
