Global Mentorship and Supporting Women in STEM

In 2018, Northgate’s Principal Geologist Maile Smith took part in two volunteer delegations as part of the TechWomen program, traveling to both Nigeria and Malaysia. In 2019, as Northgate continues our social responsibility and commitment to mentoring women in science, Maile is headed to Uzbekistan. The purpose of the delegation trips is to engage and encourage women to consider a career path in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). While women are gaining numbers in traditionally male-dominated fields, they are still significantly outnumbered in STEM. #TechWomen18 at Northgate Northgate celebrates our 8th year participating in TechWomen. This fall, Northgate welcomed emerging women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to join us in our Oakland office for four weeks of mentoring and professional exchange. Time flies when you’re having fun! There are only three more days of the professional mentorship component of the 2016 TechWomen program that began on September 19 at 37 host companies across the San Francisco Bay Area. Northgate has been a proud participant since the first year of the program in 2011, and has hosted TechWomen Emerging Leaders (ELs) from Morocco, Sierra Leone, Tunisia, and South Africa. Northgate Supports TechWomen Mentoring Girls in STEM Community Event at Twitter

This week Northgate attended the TechWomen Mentoring Girls in STEM Community Event hosted by Twitter’s Women in Engineering Group, #WOMENG. We met many inspiring emerging leaders from Africa and the Middle East, as well as  professional and cultural mentors from STEM organizations around the Bay Area. Northgate Supports TechWomen 2014

Northgate is proud to be supporting TechWomen again in 2014.  This will be the third time Northgate has participated in TechWomen.  This year, Northgate will be hosting an emerging leader from Tunisia who has particular interest in soil investigations and geotechnical challenges. TechWomen, a program sponsored by the US Department of State, connects women leaders from Africa and the Middle East focused on developing their careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with talented professional mentors throughout the Bay Area.
